LaLigaSantender Matchday 34 Review: Ocampos, Griezman, Ramos and Morata steals the show

LaLigaSantender’s Matchday 34 was full of intrigues, dazzles, the hoo-ha moments will linger for the next few days on the lips of football fans before the next round of fixtures roll in. Where else do we start from than the ÉL Madrigal where we witnessed one of the most fascinating tie of the season.

VILLAREAL 1 – 4 BARÇELONA

The last fixture of Matchday 34, Barça were 7 points behind RealMadrid before the kickoff at 9pm, only a win will take the margin back to 4 points which they emphatically got in grand style.

An early own goal from Pau in the 3rd minute started the Barça onslaught on Villarreal’s defense who are unbeaten since post Lockdown. Villarreal equaliser came in the 14th minute from the boots of Gerard Moreno after a Santi Carzola’s shot was parried by Ter Stegen into the legs of Moreno for his 16th goal of the season. Villarreal had barely settled after their equaliser before Barça struck again with a sublime goal from potent striker Luis Suarez on the 20th minute mark from a Messi assist.

In the 45th minute, Griezmann scored an exquisite magical flick of a goal from outside the box for Barca’s third. That’s definitely one of the goals of the season strike from the out of favour French forward.

Moreno is the third highest goal scorer with 16 goals

It was cruise control for Setién’s team all through the second half. Messi got a goal which was ruled out by VAR, he also struck the bar with a sumptuous free kick before Ansu Fati got the 4th goal in the 86th after a beautiful individual solo effort. Credit must go to Setién’s fantastic tactics which allowed Messi play closer to the strikers and the complexity of the game changed from what we have seen since post Lockdown. Messi’s double assist ensured he is one shy from equaling Xavi Hernandez record of 20 assists recorded in the 2008/09 season.

ATLÉTICO MADRID 3 – 0 MALLORCA

Atléti resurgence since post Lockdown continues with a stress free comfortable win. Double strikes from former Madridista Alvaro Morata in the first 45 minutes plus another from MR ATLÉTI koke sealed the victory for the home team.

Morata converted a 29th minute penalty for the first goal before completing his brace im the 45+4 minute. Simeone’s men are favourites to get the third automatic UCL ticket.

GRANADA 2 – 2 VALENCIA

Granada forced Valencia to a 2 – 2 drawn in a thrilling encounter. All the four goals came in the second half. Fernadez scored first in 61′ minute, shortly after Manu Vallejo got the equaliser then in form Guedes got the second goal for the away team. Valencia thought the three points was in the bag until fede Vico equalised late in the 86th minute.

ATHLETIC CLUB 0 – 1 REALMADRID

With their 27 out of 30 LaLiga home games unbeaten record, Bilbao were in high spirit to puncture Madrid’s title hopes witha win or draw. It was a cagey first half as both teams were extremely cautious. Courtois produced two first half saves to keep the scores goalless.

Exciting left back Marcelo was stamped on the feet in the box with 20 minutes ago. It took the efforts of VAR to reaffirm the decision. Ramos camly slotted home the match winner. Zidane is grinding out the results and might win LaLiga with the same guys some claimed were old and done.

There was late drama at the magnificent Sanchez Pizjuan on Monday night during the last action of LaLigaSantender Matchday 34.

Ocampos saved a 98’minute strike after he scored the lone goal

Sevilla who are breathing down on Atléti’s neck for the UCL automatic ticket faced a brick wall in Eibar. The wall was broken in the 56th minute after Ocampos lashed on to a cross to slot it pass Eibar Dminovic. Fast forward to the 90+7′ minute, Sevilla’s Tomàs Vaclik was stretched out after an injury, Sevilla had used up their substitutions and was condemned to settle for Ocampos wearing the gloves.

A minute later, Ocampos produced a brilliant save to deny the spoils being shared. He was the hero of the night. Catch the highlights below.
